Connect 2 Science: DNA, T-Cell & Pipette Snowflakes

Updated: Dec 16, 2020

Hello Kiddies, Parents/Caregivers and Teachers!

Here at KiddieHab we support science, scientific study, and scientific thought & practice. We support Science Teaching Excites Medical Interest (STEMI) education and programs to advance science curiosity in kiddies. So to Ms. Rose's delight. ThermoFisher Scientific Inc. has provided a wonderful science-related activity during this holiday season. We just felt compelled to share this find with all of you, along with the work ThermoFisher is doing in advocating and advancing Science.

ThermoFisher Scientific Inc. is one of the the world's leading companies in life science and research, that specializes in the creation of scientific instrumentations, reagents and consumables, and software and services to healthcare, life science, and other laboratories in academia, government, and industry.

ThermoFisher Scientific created a webinar platform called Connect 2 Science #connect2science. It is geared towards more advanced professionals in the science-related profession. However, they have provided wonderful templates on how to make special science related paper snowflakes. Here are the templates provided by ThermoFisher: DNA Snowflake Template Pipette Snowflake Template T-Cell Snowflake Template

The most appropriate age for this activity is about 10 years old + (5th grade and on). In 5th grade, a focus on Science as a Human Endeavor is a good start on discussing DNA. At this level teaching the shape of the helix is beneficial.

T-Cells can also be explained in a general way, such as, a cell that is part of the immune system. The pipette could be explained in terms of, the awesome lab instruments, that lab scientists, scientists, and researchers use in their work every day. We will go in depth about Science driven lesson plans and grade levels. However, with the advent of Science technology during the pandemic; and the tireless work of Scientists, Laboratory Professionals, and Researchers worldwide, during this unprecedented time, is one worth having an open discussion. This activity is a great introduction to more in depth conversations, questions, and lessons, in Science and beyond. Hopefully, it sparks the kind of curiosity that sustains a lifetime! Ms. Rose will keep you all updated on more Science-related resources in the future! ENJOY!

You can use Construction Paper as Well!
